Vikings Sign Harrison Smith to 5 Year Contract Extension

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is known as a defensive guru, and one of the key pieces of his defense is now set to be with the team for at least another 5 years.

Several sources are reporting that safety Harrison Smith has agreed to a 5 year contract extension.  According to NFL.com, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport is reporting that the deal covers five years and is worth $51.25 million with a $10 million signing bonus up front and $28.578 million in total guarantees.  That would currently make Smith the highest-paid safety in the league.

Signing Smith before kicking off their first season at US Bank Stadium was a priority for the Vikings, and now they can continue to focus on football and not have contract talks become a distraction.
