When Does The Northland Typically See Its Last Frost?
It's officially that strange time of year in the Northland. The weather changes from the day to day and we never know exactly what we are going to get.
One thing is for sure - we all look forward to the last frost because that means we have finally turned the corner on cold weather! When does that usually happen in the Northland?
The National Weather Service of Duluth answered that question recently on their Twitter account. According to their post, the last frost usually happens between the 11th of May and the 31st of May!
That means we are in the homestretch for the possibility of chilly weather. Then again, 2020 has been an odd year all around and this is the Northland so we have to be prepared for anything!
The Old Farmer's Almanac made predictions on what we can expect for the month of May and based on their predictions for the middle and end of the month, it is possible we will see our last frost, especially from the 18th to the 31st. That is when they call for a period of cool temperatures. (And it just wouldn't feel right to have a frost in June. Ha!)
Earlier this year, the famous Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Groundhog's Day, which meant we were due for an early spring. If only there were a way to predict an early summer.
