The popular Wednesday night gathering for kids 14 and under will be held at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

The Young Athletes Foundation has created opportunities for kids to get out and be active. The course will be the track at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex. The event runs in the winter, holding races indoors on Saturdays and during the Summer with races outside at various locations.

The event is free and open to any child age 14 & under, and each age group runs a different distance. The races start at 6:00 p.m., on July 20th, beginning with the youngest kids and then with the older kids. Here are the age group and distances listed below.

  • 4 Years Old & Younger --- 1/8 Mile
  • 5 & 6 Years Old --- 1/8 Mile
  • 7 & 8 Years Old --- 1/4 Mile
  • 9 & 10 Years Old --- 1/4 Mile
  • 11 & 12 Years Old --- 1/2 Mile
  • 13 & 14 Years Old --- 1/2 Mile

Wednesday night at the races will try to reach many communities by starting at Superior, then going to Cloquet, Proctor, Duluth East, and Hermantown. For a complete listing of all the Wednesday locations and weather cancellations, you can go to the Grandma's Marathon YAF website or The Wednesday Night Event on Facebook.

The Young Athletes Foundation is funded mostly by various races like Grandma's Marathon. It then gives back by sponsoring the Running Shoe Program, Wednesday Night At The Races, The Winter Challenge, Scholarship Program, and the Fit-N-Fun Run. It supports Twin Ports and other surrounding communities with recreational and athletic organizations working to provide our community’s kids with plenty of opportunities to be healthier and more active.
