Fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling always come to mind, but don't forget in our backyard is Duluth's Spirit Mountain.  Most people think of downhill skiing or snowboarding when they think of Spirit Mountain, but it has much more to offer.

Besides the activities mentioned above, there are opportunities to go tubing, fat-tire biking, and even Nordic or a more Cross-Country type skiing.

A pretty good investment for the winter, and especially for something to do with active kiddos is a season pass for Spirit Mountain.  Up until the end of October, Spirit Mountain Season Passes are on sale.

Depending on your flavor of outdoor winter activity, prices will vary on each type of pass, but there are other perks to having a season pass.

Besides the discount offered until October 31st, with your season pass you get two buddy tickets for just ten bucks each to bring a friend.  If they need gear, it's only another ten bucks to rent that for the day.

If you want to go tubing and are a season pass holder, you can get two-hour daytime tubing tickets for just ten bucks as well, as many times as you want.

Not forgetting the food, because that's always a part of burning calories on the slopes, season pass holders get a perk in that department too.  You'll receive 15% off food at the Spirit Mountain Skyline Cafe, and Moosehead Saloon & Riverside Bar and Grill.
