Defensive Coordinator Todd Strop for the UMD Football team has resigned from his position after two years with the team, citing personal reasons for his departure.

Assistant coach Tyler Yelk, who is in his fourth year with the program, will assume Strop's duties immediately in his departure.

Under the guidance of Strop, the Bulldogs defense put up stellar numbers, which included winning a national championship and allowing the least points by a defense in the entire NCAA Division II in 2010. While at the reigns, the program also produced five defensive All-Americans and nine All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference first team selections.

Strop cites being away from his family, who lives in River Falls, Wisconsin, as the catalyst behind the decision. He offered the following about his time with UMD:

I am extremely grateful for the coaching opportunity I have been given with the Bulldogs and want to thank everyone at UMD for what has been, without a doubt, the best two years of my professional life.

Prior to joining the Bulldogs, Strop put in two years with the University of South Dakota as an assistant coach and also served some time as Defensive Coordinator for South Dakota. He joined the Bulldogs in February of 2010, helping the team to their second NCAA Division II championship in three years.
