Duluth will truly be the Christmas City in 2021 as another fun attraction will be available to families across the Northland and beyond. The North Shore Scenic Railroad in Duluth is bringing back the Christmas City Express beginning Thanksgiving weekend.

The Christmas City Express is a family-friendly experience that lasts about 90 minutes per ride. It will be available through mid-December.

The announcement was shared Tuesday by Visit Duluth on their official Facebook page:

North Shore Scenic Railroad is bringing back the Christmas City Express. It begins in the Lake Superior Railroad Museum (included with all tickets), where you’ll be treated to a reading of the new Christmas City Express story, carolers, and a visit from a special guest! Next you will enjoy a 30-minute train ride with complimentary hot chocolate, cookies, and holiday music.

Beginning Friday, November 26, the Christmas City Express will run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through December 19. The experience will run on at the following times:

  • Fridays: 4:15 pm, 5:15 pm, 6:15 pm, and 7:15 pm
  • Saturdays: 3:15 pm, 4:15 pm, 5:15 pm, 6:15 pm and 7:15 pm
  • Sundays: 3:15 pm, 4:15 pm and 5:15 pm

Space is very limited, so it is highly recommended that all tickets be purchased in advance. If space is available, remaining tickets will go on sale starting at 3 pm the day of the performance at the North Shore Scenic Railroad ticket office, located at 506 W Michigan Street in Duluth.

Coach seats are $28.00 for adults (14+), $25 for children (3-13), 2 & under free.

A fun new addition this year are the Domecar seats. Domecar seats are $10 more than coach seats, with no age groups allowed free of charge, and they provide the unique opportunity of riding upstairs under the 85-foot glass dome. Domecar seat pricing is $38.00 for adults (14+), $35 (all ages 0+).

If you want to have a truly perfect night of getting into the Christmas spirit in Duluth, you should absolutely plan on enjoying both the Christmas City Express and Bentleyville on the same night! They are very close to one another and would provide very festive one-two punch.

The Bentleyville "Tour Of Lights" opens Friday, November 20 and runs through December 27 in Duluth's Bayfront Festival Park. After being a drive-through event in 2020, it will once again be a walk-through event in 2021. Let hot chocolate season begin!
