Duluth No Longer Enforcing Mask Ordinance
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changed the game yesterday by announcing that masks no longer need to be worn indoors or outdoors, with some exceptions of course, and the City of Duluth is reacting.
The Duluth City Council is saying that the current facemask ordinance will no longer be enforced in the city and that a repeal of the ordinance is expected during the next council meeting on May 24th.
Normally taking the necessary steps to repeal an ordinance would take two meetings, but they will try to repeal the ordinance as an emergency during the meeting on the 24th.
City of Duluth Chief Administrative Officer Noah Schuchman said, "“It is also important to remember that the CDC’s guidance on easing mask-wearing is for fully vaccinated people and that some business sectors and nonprofits are still required to wear masks within their spaces and may require the public to do the same."
The City of Duluth passed its ordinance to require facemasks in public places on July 13th, 2020, and was one of the first cities in the state to do so along with places like Rochester, Mankato, Edina, and Minnetonka. Gov. Tim Walz issued a statewide mask mandate on July 22nd.
Anyone 12 or older is now eligible and encouraged to get a vaccine and there are plenty to go around at this point, so making an appointment or finding a place to walk in shouldn't be too much of an issue at this point, visit the State of Minnesota vaccine connector tool to find a vaccine location near you.
