Flip’s Son Ryan Saunders Gets First Win as Timberwolves Coach
It was a close win and an emotional win last night for the Minnesota Timberwolves as Ryan Saunders gets his first win as interim head coach.
Ryan is Flip Saunders son, Flip was the longtime coach and GM of the Timberwolves before his untimely death in October of 2015 at the age of 60.
The Timberwolves fired coach Tom Thibodeau on Sunday, January 6th and made Ryan the interim head coach. Ryan has been an assistant coach for the Timberwolves since 2014, before that he spent some time as an assistant with the Washington Wizards.
The Timberwolves beat Oklahoma Thunder 119-117, as an ode to his father Ryan called Flip's favorite play as the first play of the game, you can hear him talk about it in the interview below.
