Jupiter So Close Tonight You Might See Its Moons Using Binoculars

Skywatchers take note, tonight is the best night of the year to see Jupiter.

Jupiter reaches opposition tonight, June 10th, that means that the Earth, Sun, and Jupiter all align in a straight line, giving you a great opportunity to see the moons or even Jupiter's famous red spot.

Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, will be best viewed a couple of hours after sunset as it rises higher in the night sky, using binoculars (holding them very still), a telescope or even a nice telephoto camera lens you should be able to see its moons lined up next to the planet.

The forecast calls for some clearing as we move into the overnight hours, so hopefully, we will get a good look tonight. If not, no worries, Jupiter remains close and exceptionally visible throughout June.
