Target Drops Mask Policy For Fully Vaccinated Guests

Target has made the decision to lift it's stores' mask mandate policy for fully vaccinated people. The updated mask policy begins today for both customers and employees. Target released a statement from their Minneapolis, Minnesota office on May 17.

In the statement they refer to the CDC's updated guidance last week that said that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks indoors or outdoors. Because of that, Target will "no longer require fully vaccinated guests and team members to wear face coverings in our stores, except where it's require by local ordinances."

They still strongly recommend that guests and team members who are not fully vaccinated to continue to wear face coverings in the Target stores. They have promised to continue the increased safety, cleaning, and social distancing measures.

This news today is an abrupt change from what Target said last week. They previously said that they would continue to require masks even if Governor Tim Walz lifted the state mask mandate.

Other retailers like Walmart, Trader Joe's, Starbucks, Costco, and others have lifted their mask mandate for fully vaccinated people. Target now has joined them in this policy update, according to USA Today.

Target also reminds people in their statement that they do offer COVID-19 vaccination appointments at all of their CVS at pharmacies. They encourage their employees to get vaccinated and offer paid time and free lyft rides for their team to get to appointments.

In the state of Minnesota, there were 872 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Monday.
