UMD Marshall Planetarium Offering Virtual Summer Camps

What a cool program for kids who love and want to learn more about the solar system and space travel.

UMD's Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium is offering two different virtual summer camps, one for ages 6-8, and one for ages 9-12.

The first virtual camp for the younger children is called 'Adventure Through The Solar System' and will take kids on a "cosmic journey with planetarium staff as they explore the skies, learn about rockets, and then journey to each of the planets in the solar system." This camp happens July 13th through the 17th and costs $100 for the first kid and $50 for each additional kid in the same household.

The second camp takes place July 20th through the 24th and the cost will be the same as the other, in this camp kids "will explore the universe with planetarium staff as they learn how astronomers find planets around other stars, discuss what it takes to survive on different worlds, and challenge campers to build their own base on an alien planet."

Registration for each camp is open until July 10th and you can do that right here. Each camp comes with a box of supplies and that will need to be picked up at the Planetarium before each camp.

Each daily session starts at 10 AM and wraps up at about 3 PM, during this time campers will learn from the Planetarium staff via Zoom chats and have some time to work on each daily project. Sounds fun!
