It's hard to believe how fast November has gone, which is great news for everyone looking forward to the upcoming holiday season. Now, with Thanksgiving just over a week away, it's time to break out the family fun events across the Northland.

Right on cue, the Essentia Health Duluth Heritage Center is hosting an event that not only provides family fun, but it's an event that is free of charge and everyone is invited. As an added bonus, it's an indoor event so no need to excessively bundle up.

On Wednesday, November 17, Northland families are invited to the Essentia Duluth Heritage Center for the Gobbler Glide. According to a post on the City of Duluth, MN Facebook page, the event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Everyone at the event can expect to enjoy ice skating, of course, as well as:

  • Frozen turkey bowling
  • Arts and crafts
  • Drawings for gift cards
  • "What I Am Thankful For" activity, hosted by the Boys and Girls Clubs
  • Live DJ spinning tunes in the arena

Remember to bring your skates, but don't worry if you don't have any available as there will be skates available on-site for those who need them. The skating will obviously be  happening in the arena, with other activities being held in the lobby area.

The Essentia Health Duluth Heritage Center is located at 120 South 30th Avenue West in Duluth, with free parking available on-site. Throughout each year, they not only host a a variety of games and tournaments, but also free family events such as this.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
