National Police Week is running now through May, 16, with National Peace Officers Memorial Day landing on May 15.  The Superior Police Department remembers fallen officers not only on that day, but year round.

According to the post on the Superior Police Department Facebook page:

If you’ve ever been up close to one of our squad cars, you may have noticed a list of names on the back. Dating all the way back to April 14, 1911, the Officer Down Memorial Page ODMP.org) has maintained a record of the officers from the Superior Police Department who lost their lives in the line of duty. In fact, the ODMP searches for records much further back than that, on behalf of all departments, in an effort to ensure those who sacrificed everything are remembered.

As the Duluth Police Department also did this week, the Superior Police Department also utilized social media to honor their officers who paid the ultimate price while serving their community:

  • Squadman Edward B. Retzer
End of Watch: May 16th, 1963
  • Sergeant Robert J. Fulton
End of Watch: April 29th, 1948
  • Constable Adolf G. Jacobson
End of Watch: April 18th, 1941
  • Sergeant Arthur H. Zimmerman
End of Watch: December 3rd, 1929
  • Patrolman Finlay Beaton
End of Watch: July 27th, 1919
  • Patrolman Roy W. Jackson
End of Watch: April 14th, 1911

In 1962 President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week.
