If you dragged your feet on running the William A. Irvin 5K this year, the universe is giving you another chance! Grandma's Marathon organizers just added more openings for those that want to run it.

Grandma's Marathon is just over a month away and it is always one of the most exciting weekends of the year for the Twin Ports! People come from other countries to run the marathon.

Aside from the big marathon itself, there is also the Garry Bjorklund half marathon and William A. Irvin 5K. The race weekend will kick off on Friday, June 17th with the 5K with the full and half marathons taking place the following day.

Of course, one of the best parts of race weekend will also be back in full force this year: the live music! The music lineup will take place at Bayfront Festival Park this year on both Friday and Saturday. Local bands will rock the stage over the course of the two nights.

The races themselves fill up fast which is why it is great news that Grandma's Marathon organizers have added more spots for the William A. Irvin 5k. They shared the news on Friday (May 6th) on their official Facebook page.

They shared that they are adding 100 more spots for runners. Make sure you hop on it if you want to run the race, as spots are limited! I have run it before and am running it this year. Even if you aren't an avid runner, it is a really cool course and bucket list experience.

It is also a great way to get involved in Grandma's Marathon weekend, which is a giant party from start to finish! Plus, this will be the first time in a few years that it will feel pretty close to normal without limited capacities and such.

It should also be noted that the races filled at record paces this year. As of mid-February, the half marathon was already sold out with limited spots remaining for the rest of the races. Like I said, if you want to run the 5K, do not hesitate to register before it's too late.

According to the Grandma's Marathon website, you will not need to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to take part in the races. Organizes will however monitor COVID-19 leading up to the races and if cases are high, the races will go virtual.

The 2021 race weekend was a blast with great weather for those running the races. This year should be fun, too so register for the William A. Irvin 5K before it's too late!
